Hello and welcome to my new blog! So new, in fact, that it doesn’t even have a name yet. It’s been a few years since I have been on a ‘proper’ blogging platform (Do tumblr and Instagram count?), and I’m excited for the possibilities that come with returning to this more versatile platform. Ideally, this will become a place where I can share regular updates about personal projects beyond just a couple photos and the limited copy space available on Instagram.
Mostly I want a place where I can describe parts of my process and my work more in-depth, and also bring it away from Instagram where it sometimes can feel like people are just mining your work for money-making ideas. I’m happy to inspire others, but in my experience, sharing techniques on Instagram can lead some folks to feel like you are also sharing your designs and styles to be lifted and copied. My hope is that the folks who will take the time to read my posts here are interested in viewing my work in a deeper way, and are looking for some behind-the-scenes peeks from a working artist and metalsmith.
This blog will allow me to share ideas in an informational and yet informal style. Be prepared to see rough sketches, unpolished studio photos, questionable grammar, and hopefully, let's be real, some of the genuine struggles of running a studio along the way. Being the solo operator behind a small business, and somehow keeping that separate from my personal life has been a challenging and humbling experience. Making living off ones art is a precarious dance. Maybe you'll just read-along just to see how the sausage is made...
I will also be posting updates here about new shows, events, projects, releases, sales, etc. Most of those announcements can already be followed via my Instagram and also by joining my brand new mailing list. Scroll to the end of this post to find the contact form to join. (I promise to only send you important news-worthy updates, and not to spam you.)
Thanks for reading this far, and look out for an updated FAQ coming in the next few days. I’ll be answering some of my most commonly asked question in-depth. Feel free to submit any questions you have below, or to my Instagram, and I will be happy to answer them.
Happy New Year
