Plague Knight is a one of a kind mini collection of sterling silver pendants inspired by the medieval grotesque. In architecture, Grotesque figures, such as gargoyles, were believed to have the ability to ward off evil.
Each piece in the collection is covered in a dense hand-built studded surface that recalls both riveted medieval armor and the swollen buboes historically associated with bubonic plague imagery. Beneath that textured exterior are recognizable figures: knights, a unicorn, a hound, a working padlock with keys, and armor elements, each cast in solid sterling silver and finished by hand in Portland, Oregon.
These pendants are tactile objects designed to be touched as much as worn. Each pendant is weighty and substantial, and its knobby surface makes it a pleasure to rub and hold.
Each pendant in the Plague Knight mini collection has been cast in solid sterling silver using the traditional lost wax casting method.
The textures on the surface were built by hand using hot wax, each stud placed one-by-one until full coverage was reached.
A dark contrasting patina highlights the highly textured surface, and adds to the unsettle aura of this mysterious knight.
