Happy May Day! I’m excited to share my newest collection, The Memory Palace.
The title comes from the mnemonic method of the same name, a way of remembering by constructing an imagined interior space, where ideas and memories are placed within specific rooms for later recall. I’ve always been drawn to this structure, the idea that memory can be built, revisited, and carried with you. This collection follows that same logic. Each ring is its own “room,” built around a singular stone, holding a specific feeling, reference, or moment in time.
These rings were created using gemstones I’ve collected over the last five to six years, chosen for their origin, character, and individuality. You’ll find rose cut diamonds, rustic diamonds, and sapphires from traceable sources including Montana, Australia, and Tanzania. The use of rose cuts and other historical faceting styles is intentional. These stones were designed to reflect light in low, ambient conditions, candlelight rather than direct illumination, which gives them a softer, more atmospheric presence than modern brilliant cuts.
While this collection can function as a ceremonial or engagement offering, it is not limited to that framework. These pieces are meant to mark something meaningful, whether that is a relationship, a personal milestone, a period of transformation, or a memory you want to hold onto. Each ring is one of a kind, and each is intended to act as a container, something that gathers meaning over time and becomes part of your daily life.
The Memory Palace draws from medieval jewelry traditions, particularly posy rings and signet forms. You’ll see substantial bezels, low profile settings, and hand engraving throughout.
Comfort and durability were central to the design process. These rings are built to be worn every day. The forms are smooth, low, and solid, meant to feel at home on your hand.
Any of these one of a kind pieces can also serve as the starting point for a custom ring. I continue to source unique stones, and I’m always interested in developing new work that builds on these ideas.
This collection was designed for color and daily wearability. Sapphires are second only to diamonds when it comes to durability. They also come in nearly every color, shape, size, and can be found all over the world.
Sapphires held a special place in medieval lapidary traditions, where stones were understood to carry moral and protective meaning as well as beauty. Medieval writers associated sapphires with truth, wisdom, loyalty, and clarity of thought. Clergy and rulers wore sapphires as signs of integrity and rightful authority, and the stone appeared frequently in episcopal rings as a symbol of spiritual responsibility.
In the writings of Hildegard of Bingen, sapphires were described as stones that strengthened resolve and protected the wearer from envy or harm. Their deep blue color was often linked to the heavens and to contemplation, but just as importantly they were valued for their rarity and individuality.
Each of these colorful stones has been collected by Morgaine over many year, chosen for its unique color, cut, and characteristics. You will find sapphires from Montana, Australia, Tanzania and Madagascar within The Memory Palace.
